Remember the days of “pick ya up at 6,” dressing up, flowers…and I don’t know… DATE NIGHTS!? I know when you get married and move in together…date nights become more of just going out to dinner on a Friday night or catching a movie on a Saturday. Then when baby number one comes along? What is date night? haha We really do make an effort to spend some time together and go out to dinner, even if Harper is with us. But we want to switch up the old “dinner and a movie” routine!
For those of you that don’t know us well… Jordan and I started dating in High School. A truly outrageous story of how we met in the athletic training room…but I’ll save that for another time haha! I was 16 and he was 15. We’ve been together for almost 11 years and married for FIVE in June!!! I can’t believe that. So needless to say, we’ve been on A LOT of dates.
I was recently cleaning out my office and came across a box from our wedding. In it I was our “date night jar” that we had set out for people to write ideas during cocktail hour. Just proof how unimportant some of those little things we stress about as brides…we never even touched it!! But there are so many cute ideas!!! So we came up with a fun idea to put them to use…
The DATE YOUR SPOUSE CHALLENGE!
If you follow me on Instagram…we did a fun little Live video a couple of weeks ago sharing all the ideas on the sticks from the jar and asked viewers for some more ideas to add. We had some great additions!
So here’s the deal… once a month (maybe twice if we’re lucky) we will pick a stick from the jar and go on the date! We will have our normal date night jar as well as a “budget buster” jar for dates that we know will be a little more pricey. We will pick from this jar during months we have maybe a special occasion to celebrate or know we have a little extra in the bank account.
We’re challenging YOU to join us!! I’m going to list all of our date night stick ideas below, feel free to use them to make your own! We will do a fun Live video on my instagram @famfromscratch each month to announce what our date is. Our number one rule for the challenge… NO CELL PHONES! With the exception of one photo. AFTER the date please tag us and use the hashtag #dateyourspousechallenge so we can see your date! We will announce a giveaway to participants.
Here’s our ideas for our jar:

We’re encouraging you to join us on this challenge because in a marriage, and in any relationship…it takes WORK. It takes effort and it takes intentionally making time to get to know your spouse and continue to build your relationship. We are so blessed to have two amazing sets of grandparents to babysit for us! Find someone you trust to take a few hours for yourselves. Intentionally use the time to grow closer together, grow closer to God, and build your marriage. This is such an important piece of any relationship that is often so overlooked (no wonder the divorce rate is so high 😥). So please join us! We can’t wait to see your dates and hear how the challenge goes for you and strengthens your relationship (married or not!). Happy Dating!
